Gerald 'Jerry' Reiley Passes

Longtime harness racing industry participant Gerald 'Jerry' Reiley of Owen Sound, Ont. passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.

Born on August 15, 1937, Gerald Smith Reiley, of Owen Sound, was in his 86th year.

Jerry’s interests over his lifetime included race horses, driving and racing his trotters for more than 40 years at tracks around southwestern Ontario. He also enjoyed woodworking and regular visits at the coffee shops.

Dearly loved husband and best friend of Donelda Reiley (née Pendergast) for 63 years. Loving father of Kim Mahon (Gary), of Owen Sound and Rick Reiley (Brenda), of Hepworth. Proud grandfather of Brodie, Luke, Stephanie (Greg) and great-grandson Max. Dear brother-in-law of Jack Pendergast (Louise), Doug Pendergast (Donna), Rose Shular, Muriel Schnurr (Bun) and Anita Pendergast. Jerry will be missed by his special niece, Cathy and many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Saul and Mary Lena Reiley, his siblings, Mel Reiley (Kay), Everett Reiley and Jack Reiley (Marion) and his in-laws, Jean Shular (George), Ken Shular and Lawrence Pendergast.

Friends are welcome to join the family for a Come and Go Reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #6, 1450 2nd Avenue West, Owen Sound on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Lung Association or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

Very Sad news...Gerald was always one of the people I looked forward to seeing when at the track . One of the true Gentleman I had the pleasure of Racing with...he will be missed
