Powertrain Powerful In Friday Return

Powertrain

After a few months away from the races, speedster Powertrain made his first appearance of the season during the session of qualifiers on Friday, Jan. 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The six-year-old son of Shadow Play - Mmillion Blue Chip last raced in an upper-level conditioned event for owner Millar Farms and trainer Nick Gallucci on Nov. 5. His return effort against a mixed group of older pacers was certainly impressive.

Driver Louis-Philippe Roy send Powertrain to the point of command and paced comfortably through fractions of :29.2, :59 and 1:27.2. Starting to gain separation through that third quarter, Powertrain pulled away from his rivals down the lane for a double-digit romp. A :27.1 final panel put the stamp on a 1:54.1 mile, with Hunter Hill (Tyler Jones) and Areukidinme Cabbie (Tyler Borth) some 14 lengths in arrears.

A talented pacer who boasts a win against Bulldog Hanover as a sophomore among his nine career tallies, Powertrain sports a mark of 1:48.2 with more than $320,000 in earnings.
