Pop Up Sweep For Cool Clifford

After going perfect in the preliminary legs of the Pop Up Series at Woodbine Mohawk Park the betting public was quick to make Cool Clifford an overwhelming favourite in Monday’s $25,000 final.

And true to form, the six-year-old son of Kadabra-Cool Creek Breeze powered to the lead and didn’t look back en route to a 1:54.3 triumph.

In rein to Bob McClure, Cool Clifford shot to the top from Post 7 and found himself on the hook for fractions of :27.3, :56.1 and 1:25.1.  He then kicked home in :29.2 to win by a half-length margin over Shoshie Deo.  Holdin Aces rallied from far back to finish third.

Gabby Sasso trains the gelding, who was sent off as a 1-9 favourite, for Martwest Racing Stable and Jeff Courchesne.  The victory improved his 2022 record to 3-2-2 from 16 starts.  The 15-time winner has banked close to $290,000 to date.
