Can Soccer Hanover Score Again?

Racing at Red Shores Summerside

Soccer Hanover has proven his recipe for success starts with the Atlantic Ocean and some warm weather as he goes for his fourth straight win Friday evening (June 3) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The Prince County, P.E.I. oval has 11 dashes plated up for a 6:30 p.m. opening post time with Soccer Hanover slated as the top dog in the race 10 $3,100 featured pace. Corey MacPherson drives the Leith Waite co-owned and trained pacer for co-owners Les and Spencer Waite from post four on Friday. The eight-year-old son of Dragon Again sees sunshine all the time as he was racing at his winter base of Pompano Park in Florida until the end of March then made the trek up the Eastern Seaboard to land back home on Prince Edward Island for the summer campaign. Since coming back to P.E.I., Soccer Hanover has been unbeaten in three straight starts, including a 1:55.3 five-length romp in his latest outing.

Moonwriter has proven over the past year how much he loves Summerside and has post five in the top event with David Dowling between the wheels for trainer Colin Johnson. The Sportswriter stallion will go for his 35th lifetime win on Friday evening. Another obstacle to those top two entries is post three starter Mantario from the Jennifer Doyle barn with rookie driving sensation Damian MacLellan in the seat. MacLellan, a 19-year-old Inverness, N.S. native, has recorded two wins and a second from his first four pari-mutuel drives and has Mantario at 3-1 morning line odds on Friday.

Also in the field are Coasttocoastshark (to be driven by Devon Wallace) and Dylan Sam (Ken Murphy).

The Backstretch Beat in Friday’s program likes Soccer Hanover on top: “Soccer Hanover had been racing the final ever meeting at Pompano Park in Florida all winter and has been nothing short of sparkling perfection since coming home. We see that invincible three-for-three record getting one better today.”

Newcomer Courageux has the outside post six in race four of the evening for trainer/driver Walter Cheverie. The three-year-old son of Sunshine Beach was racing the maiden classed at Grand River Raceway in Ontario as a two-year-old and makes his three-year-old debut on Friday.

Betterthanglamor (Adam Merner) is a new addition in race five for the Lester Stewart barn as the four-year-old Betterthancheddar mare comes to P.E.I. from the claiming ranks in Ontario.

Catch all the action live at the track which also showcases the Red Shores Summerside Tailgate Party. Fans can also tune in to the Race Day broadcast at Redshores.ca with wagering available online at HPIBet.com.
