Longtime harness racing industry participant Robert Thomas “Bob” Lackey of Alliston, Ont. passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at the age of 80.
Bob enjoyed his time at Ontario's Standardbred racetracks, participating as a trainer and driver for more than five decades. On December 19, 1973, Lackey had the distinct honour of winning the first ever race at the now-closed Barrie Raceway, driving Dukes Jane to victory for his uncle Sam in a mile time of 2:16.
Beloved husband of the late Patricia Lackey. Loved father of Dean Lackey (Gail) and Tim Lackey (Cindy). Loving grampy of Joshua, Joel, Hannah, Tazzie, Jessica, Venessa, Landon and great grampy to Celeste, Troy, Knox, Caleb and River. Bob will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be planned for a time that family and friends can gather together again. If so desired memorial donations to Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Drury Funeral Centre, Alliston.
