Alyre Pineau Passes

Longtime Standardbred industry participant Alyre Pineau of Rustico, PEI passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Beach Grove Home at the age of 90.

He was surrounded by the love of his family, hymns and prayers as his Lord lifted him up to be reunited with his beloved Marion Pineau (nee Malone).

Alyre’s deep love of life, family, horses and community was very obvious to all. He will be fondly remembered by the many friends made during his lifelong career in the harness racing industry where his patience and gentleness gained him the title of Mr. Trot. His community will remember his great contributions to St. Augustine’s Church Choir, Cymbria Lions Club and Knights of Columbus.

Alyre was a very dedicated and loving father to David (Michelle Gauthier), Betty Faithfull (Allison), JoAnn Gauthier (Joey), Tommy, Rosemary Larkin (Harvey), Joey (Tammy), Michelle Proctor (Clifford) and Nicole Tremere (Tim). He was the dear Grampy to Jodi (Jody), Tyler (Sara), Lorenda (Jeremy), Jamie (Lindsay), JulieAnn (Dave), Natasha (Scott), Matthew, Ashley (Ryan), Paige, Braedan and Rowan and Great Grampy to Boston, Rilyn, Brielle, Mara, Caleb, Paisley, Christina, Shamus, Rhea and Avery.

He is also survived by his sister, Bernadette Cernavez (Mario); brother-in-law, John Malone (Mollie); sister-in-law, Faye Malone; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Felix and Julie Anne (Gallant) Pineau; brothers and sisters, George (Val, Mary), Rita Gallant (Albert), Alice Doucette (Raymond), Simone in infancy, Adrian (Flo), Eric (Rose), Gerard (Georgie), Alphonse (Pat), and John (Inez); parents-in-law, Patrick and Nellie (Conway) Malone; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter Malone, Mary Buote, Evelyn Arsenault (Lou), Phyllis McGrath (Pat), Patsy Holmes (Dave).

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Beach Grove Home for Alyre’s care in recent years. His special caregivers had become family to him.

Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visitation on Sunday, April 10, 2022, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The Knights of Columbus and Lions Club will gather for a service at 5:15 p.m. prior to the visitation. The funeral will be held at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Rustico, on Monday, April 11, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Interment in the church cemetery at a later date.
