Yorkton Track Record; Handle Rising

Track records fell by the wayside during the Friday, July 4 card of racing at the Yorkton Exhibition in Saskatchewan, which saw the two-minute barrier broken for the first and second time.

Glenn LeDrew has stated that the track was lightning fast after being groomed finely by the Yorkton track crew.

The barrier was finally broken by Manwiththebigcigar in the Race 3. Mental Floss set torrid fractions and yielded to the track record holder just before the three-quarter pole, which was buzzed in 1:28.3. The student of Shawn Worthen opened up by six lengths in the lane and tripped the timer in 1:59.4 for the first ever sub-two minute mile in the Yorkton track's history.

The record which took decades to break only lasted for two races.

The featured Invitational saw Nealies Master cut the opening pair of fractions under heavy pressure. Nealies Master was passed by fresh horses Kalahari Riff and eventual winner Outlaw Watch Me, a six-year-old Straight Path mare that set the new mark of 1:57.4. Outlaw Watch Me is owned, trained and driven by Brian Gray.

In other positive news, LeDrew has stated that attendance at Yorkton is on the increase and wagering is up again at about 35% for the second consecutive year.
