Rockme Rollme, Enavant Impress At Mohawk

Betting favourite Rockme Rollme uncorked a quick bid off quick fractions in the stretch to score in the $36,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Sept. 26).

Points North gunned for the front to seat Nickle Bag heading to a :26.1 opening quarter. Matticulous GB, the 7-5 second choice, edged first over moving up the backstretch and swept to command past a :54.2 half. East End raced uncovered into the far turn from fourth tracked by Rockme Rollme while Matticulous GB kept the tempo rolling to three-quarters in 1:21.2.

In the stretch Points North pulled pocket to press Matticulous GB for the lead and soon slid to the front. But driver Jody Jamieson launched Rockme Rollme to the center of the track at the head of the stretch, gathered momentum and slid to a half-length victory in 1:49.4 with Matticulous GB third and Nickle Bag fourth.

Owned by Albina Montini, Kwong Sum Low, Vincent Albanese and Joseph Rogers, Rockme Rollme won his fourth race from 15 starts this season and his 12th from 42 overall, earning $234,058. Anthony Montini trains the four-year-old A Rocknroll Dance gelding who paid $4.40 to win.

Earlier in the card, the Maxime Velaye trainee Enavant soared to a lifetime-best 1:49.4 win in a $20,000 conditioned pace to stay undefeated from 11 starts. The four-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding sat third through early fractions of :27.2 and :55.2 before driver Bob McClure motored his charge towards the leader to three-quarters in 1:23.2. From there Enavant opened his lead, hitting the finish five lengths in front of JK Last Chance with Sports Obsession third. The gelding, owned by Determination and Guy Corbeil, paid $4.30 to win.
