Trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt hustled Armycaptin Hanover off cover in the stretch to score a 1:53 victory in the $10,000 Open Pace on Wednesday night (Sept. 14) at Fraser Downs.

Odds-on favourite Jewels Dragon jetted for the lead past a :26.2 first quarter and attempted to snag a breather while pressed first over by Mach Steady into a :55.1 half. Jewels Dragon turned away Mach Steady to three-quarters in 1:23.4 all while Hoerdt had Armycaptin Hanover poised from third over. As Mach Steady backtracked through the field, Armycaptin Hanover kicked into gear and reeled in the leaders through the stretch to slide to a 1-3/4-length win over I Ama Rocket, who came from second over for second. Jewels Dragon held third.

Hoerdt co-owns Armycaptin Hanover with Blair Corbeil. The six-year-old Captaintreacherous gelding won his 27th race from 95 starts and has now earned $181,101. He paid $15 to win.
