On Cloud Wine topped the ninth annual Goshen Yearling Sale, which was held on Monday, Sept. 11 at the Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, New York.
On Cloud Wine, Hip 101, was purchased for $75,000 by Ray Schnittker of Middletown, New York. Consigned by Cameo Hills Farm and bred by Steve Jones and Jonathan Kurnit, the filly is sired by Huntsville out of the Art Major mare, Wine Snob. Schnittker previously trained the filly's dam, a career winner of more than $200,000. On Cloud Wine is a full sister to last year's Park MGM Pace dead-heat winner Wine N Dine Me, who is also approaching the $200,000 earnings mark.
Baleville Bomber, Hip 2, garnered a high bid of $60,000 early at the sale. The son of Huntsville was purchased by David Hamm of Dagsboro, Delaware from the Cameo Hills Farm consignment. Bred by George, Joann and Heather Zitone, the colt is the first foal out of the Western Ideal mare, Actress Hanover.
Huntsville offspring were in demand with two more sons of the New York sire rounding out the top priced yearlings, both consigned by Cameo Hills Farm and bred by Steve Jones, selling for $50,000. David Hamm also took home Dune Buggy, Hip 32. The colt is out of the Duneside Perch mare, Dune In Red, a career winner of more than $385,000. The other, Smart Guy, Hip 41, went to Andy Miller Stables Inc. of Allentown, New Jersey. He is out of the O'Brien Award-winning and double millionaire Artsplace mare, Glowing Report.
A total of 98 yearlings were sold for $1,752,500 at this year's sale. The average price of $17,883 was down approximately 11.5 per cent from last year's record average sale price of $20,203.
Cameo Hills was once again the top consignor of the sale, selling a total of 35 yearlings from their farm and as an agent, for a total of $888,000 (an average of $25,371).
Winbak Farms yielded $285,000 in sales (an average of $14,250). The farm’s top price-getter was Hip 89, the trotting filly Wet Spring (Mets Hall-Summer Sis), who was purchased for $32,000 by All Star Racing of Towaco, New York.
Leatherstocking Equine’s total consignment of brought a total of $242,500 for an average of $18,654 and was led by the farm’s top seller, Hip 79, Corner Store, a trotting filly that brought $32,000 from Paul Kelley of Lake Worth, Florida.
Blue Chip Farm’s total yearling representation brought $143,999 and averaged $18,000. The farm’s top seller was Hip 74, the pacing colt Wolfgang Blue Chip (Courtly Choice-Hot List), who was sold for $20,000 to Joe Hess of New Milford, New Jersey.
Huntsville was once again the top selling sire in this sale. He had 14 yearlings bring a total of $524,000, averaging $37,429 each.
