Can Soccer Hanover Punt A Red Shores Double?

Published: August 23, 2022 11:55 am EDT

After a convincing Old Home Week victory, Soccer Hanover will look to double up on a special Wednesday evening program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The 11-dash Wednesday card will be the same as all evening programs on P.E.I. for the rest of the season carrying a newly scheduled 6 p.m. opening post time.

Soccer Hanover is the favourite in the race 11 finale with Adam Merner picking up the catch-drive in the absence of regular pilot Corey MacPherson. MacPherson was in the race bike as the pacer scored his 28th lifetime win on Gold Cup and Saucer night at Red Shores Charlottetown with a five-length romp in 1:54.1. Merner and Soccer Hanover will leave from Post 4 on Wednesday for trainer Leith Waite, who co-owns the eight-year-old son of Dragon Again with fellow Islanders Les and Spencer Waite.

Post 3 has the sensational Ironside Seelster, who has been hitting the triactor every start from the Duance MacEachern barn. David Dowling picks up the catch-drive behind the Thinking Out Loud four-year-old, who has amassed five wins, five seconds and a third from 13 starts this season.

Elroy Shiner was a solid second at long odds in his most recent and has Post 2 in Wednesday’s $2,400 contest for driver Jaycob Sweet and trainer Jansen Sweet.

The "Backstretch Beat" sides with Soccer Hanover to deliver as the favourite: “Soccer Hanover has been racing some of the best horses on the East Coast and gets a nice reprieve in class to make him a likely going away winner again.”

Also in the field is The Yingyang (to be driven by Ken Murphy), Heart And Soul (Jason Hughes), KD Overdrive (Kyle Mason) and Flowersonthebeach (Dale Spence).

The $3,000 top class has Woodmere Ideal Art as the favourite from Post 4 with Hughes as the controls of the Articulator seven-year-old for trainer Sifroi Melanson and owner Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B. His top rivals are Truro Invader Risin Horizon (Darren Crowe) from the insider and Post 5 starter Legendary Ron (Spence).
