Breeders of Ontario-sired horses have long known the province’s advantages. On July 10, they’ll have yet another reason to smile

.

For the second straight year, the Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association (SBOA) will be adding to the treasure chest of the $1 Million Georgian Downs Gold Rush. Last year, the SBOA offered owners of Gold Rush participants a chance to win yearling sale credits totaling $22,500. This year, every breeder of a Gold Rush winner will receive a $3,000 cash bonus.

“The SBOA really appreciates the recognition and importance that Georgian Downs Gold Rush Event adds to Ontario racing and breeding,” said Jim Bullock, on behalf of the SBOA. “The SBOA is delighted to join with Georgian Downs in rewarding participants in Gold Rush and to add a touch of gold for the breeders of these great horses.”

Launched in 2008, Gold Rush is one of the richest programs of the year for Ontario-sired horses, combining four $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold finals with four $130,000 Masters Stakes finals. The Masters Stakes, now in its fourth year, is open to Ontario-sired aged trotters and pacers.

“Gold Rush is a celebration of Ontario harness racing and we’re thrilled to have the SBOA return as partners on the event,” said Georgian Downs Director of Operations Chris Roberts. “Gold Rush has grown to become our greatest card of racing and it’s a real treat for our fans to be exposed to the cream of the Canadian crop. For breeders, owners and horsemen, it’s just another reason why Ontario is the greatest place in the world to breed, buy and race standardbreds.”
