There was plenty of stakes action on display Friday at Truro Raceway, with the highlight of the nine-race card being a set of $25,250 divisions of the Frank & Beth Stanfield Memorial for three-year-old pacing fillies.

Aspoonfulofsugar prevailed in the first division thanks to her rallying score for driver Walter Cheverie and trainer Joseph Baxter.

The filly got away third while Plain Jane shot to the top and supplied fractions of :27.2 and :55.4 before being pressed by Somebodys Me to the three-quarter pole in 1:25.3. Cheverie found clearance late for Aspoonfulofsugar, and the second choice in the wagering roared home in :29.2 to win by four lengths over Somebodys Me in 1:55.1. Havarti took home the show dough in the rich affair.

Jennifer Baxter, Matthew Williams and Cam MacPhee share ownership on the daughter of Rollwithitharry-Sugar Booger. It was the first win of the season – and the fifth to date – for the career winner of over $40,000.

Outrageous Song quarter pole-moved to the top and sped away from the foes she faced in the second division. She won comfortably in a time of 1:57.4 for driver Gilles Barrieau and trainer Ronald Matheson.

Woodmere Stella hung up the opening fraction of :28.1 before Outrageous Song pocket popped and brushed to the lead. Once on point, she cruised through middle panels of :58.4 and 1:28.4 before sprinting home in :29 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Woodmere Stella. Emmy Lou Hayes rounded out the Trifecta ticket.

Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, the daughter of Sportswriter-Outrageous Storm improved her sophomore record to 5-1-1 from seven starts for owner/breeder Paul Holmes of Warren Grove, PE. She’s banked just shy of $18,000 in her career.

A set of $9,660 ‘A’ divisions of the ATSS went postward for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings, and the opening split went to Alldawaytocardigan in upset fashion for Team Heffernan in 1:59.1.

Myles Heffernan, Sr. put the Myles Heffernan, Jr.-trained gelding on the lead and they led the field through panels of :30.1, 1:00.2 and 1:30.1 before scooting home in :29 to win by three-quarters of a length over Fern Hill Gusto. Brumby took home third prize.

It was a 27-1 upset for the son of Tobago Cays-Undine Hanover. Jackie Heffernan of Glace Bay, NS owns the maiden breaker.

Fern Hill General was a popular winner in the second division for driver Brodie MacPhee and trainer Earl Smith who watched the gelding front step his way to a 1:55.1 triumph.

After parking past the :28.2 opener Fern Hill General swept to the top and laid out middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:26.1. He then used a closing kick of :29 to win by a length over St Charlesfireball. Rollwithhottytoddy took home the show dough.

Peter Smith and Gerald Morrissey share ownership on the son of Malicious-Noble Ellen. He’s now two-for-two to kick off his career.

Zendayacougarbeach rallied to a 2:00.2 triumph in the lone $3,000 ‘B’ division for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, the son of Cougar Hall-Sunset City drew clear to win by 3-1/2 lengths for trainer/driver Dave Kelly over Prince Hal. Taking home third prize was Morien Bay.

The win improved the rookie’s record to 2-0-1 from three assignments. He’s owned by Juanita and Alan MacLeod of Brackley, PE.
