Top Trotters Tangle In Andrew Perry Memorial

The Invitational trot circuit kicks off on Friday (July 14) during Governor’s Plate Week racing at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway and New Legacy and Jessiejesorjessica will renew their rivalry. 

The 12-dash card has a 6 p.m. opening post time and New Legacy gets the morning line respect in the $7,500 Andrew Perry Memorial in Race 10. The Invitational Trot is part of the new Island Trot Challenge presented by the Fox Group. Adam Merner drives the Colin Johnson trainee for owners Matt and David Burke, Don MacNeill Jr., and Debbie Element. The Father Patrick five-year-old has been splendid since coming to P.E.I. but was knocked off in his most recent start by Jessiejesorjessica (To be driven by David Dowling), who has post four this week. Also in the field are Hallofaride (Gilles Barrieau), Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault), Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy) and Freddie (Marc Campbell). 

The evening also features the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies in a pair of $14,640 'A' divisions. Saulsbrook Mabel has rail control in her A split in the seventh race for driver Barrieau, trainer and co-owner Joe Baxter and co-owner Saulsbrook Stables Inc. Her chief rivals are Next In Line (Jason Hughes) and Saulsbrook Abbey (Corey MacPherson). 

The other A division is in fourth race with Rock N Roll Cays (Murphy) favoured over Rosetown Mary (MacPherson) and Lookoveryour (Campbell). Rock N Roll Cays is a three-time winner already this season for trainer Jeff Holmes and owner Hardcore Racing of Belfast. 

A trio of $4,000 'B' divisions for sophomore fillies line up in Races 1, 3 and 5. 

Onlythegooddiyoung (Barrieau) is the top choice in the Race 2 William J. Waite Memorial. 

Race 6 is the Colin ‘Coke’ Grady Memorial with Better Than Cash (Ambyr Campbell) the morning line favourite from post five. 

JM Sportsfan (Steven Shepherd) gets top billing in the Race 9 John Davies Memorial. 

The Race 11 Dave Nicholson Memorial will see Tradition (Merner) selected to win from post four. 

The Frank Banks Memorial will cap off the card in Race 12 with Fern Hill General the top selection from post two.
