Scioto Hosts 10 OHSS Divisions

The Saturday (July 11) card at Scioto featured 10 divisions of Ohio Sires Stakes (OHSS) with four divisions for freshmen pacing fillies, three for freshmen pacing colts and two for sophomore trotting colts. Each division went for a purse of $40,000.

Charlie May captured the first of four OHSS contests for two-year-old pacing colts for driver Danny Noble as the 1-9 favourite in 1:54.2. The son of McArdle remains undefeated in two starts. Trained by Steve Carter, Charlie May now has $95,000 in career earnings for breeder-owner Don Tiger. Barnard Hanover, a 16-1 longshot, was second for Chris Page, while Brett Miller steered Im Sorry Man to a third place finish at 5-1 odds.

Lady Arthur took the first $40,000 OHSS races for freshman pacing fillies in 1:53.2 in a wire-to-wire performance for driver Ronnie Wrenn, Jr., besting rival Summer Touch by a neck. Disaronno Hill was third.

Lady Arthur is a daughter by Arthur Blue chip and the victory was the first of her career in two starts. She now has $22,738 in career earnings for trainer and co-owner Dr. Ian Moore, who owns the filly in partnership with the RG McGroup and Serge Savard.

Yanks Dugout captured the first of two $50,000 OHSS events for three-year-old trotting colts, besting four rivals in 1:54.2 and holding off a late charge by Its Academic by a head. It was the second victory in the series for the son of Triumphant Caviar who is trained by Edward Miller and was driven by Kurt Sugg for owners Ivan and Duke Sugg, who also bred the youngster. Yanks Dugout now has $75,150 in his career coffers. Stonefire US nabbed third-place honours.

Laughagain Hanover got a perfect steer by Peter Wrenn to capture the second OHSS division for freshmen pacing colts, stopping the timer in 1:54.3. The son of McArdle, who is trained by Laura Searway, left the gate as the 9-5 favourite and notched his second lifetime win in as many tries. Hill Yeah was second at 3-1 for Chris Page, while 3-1 Jackie Moon was third for Josh Sutton. Owned by Michael Cimaglio, W. Richardson and R Cimaglio, Laughagain Hanover has $22,248 in career earnings.

Winella Hanover took a lifetime mark of 1:54.4 in progress to her victory in the second OHSS for two-year-old pacing fillies. Driven by Chris Page for trainer Ronnie Burke, the daughter of Racing Hill notched her third-straight win in as many tries. Owned by Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, J. Mellilo and J&T Silva-Purnel&Libby, Winella Hanover now has $99,800 in her career bankroll.

Action Uncle captured the second OHSS for three-year-old trotting colts via a pacesetting trip for driver Brett Miller in 1:54.4. Trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr., the son of Uncle Peter notched his third-straight OHSS win for owners Cart Howard, Joyce McClelland and Larry Wills. The 1-9 favourite upped his seasonal earnings to $80,500 with four wins in as many tries. Wading Boots was second for Chris Page while Doubleyellowline got up for third for Dan Noble.

Hardt At Work prevailed in the third OHSS divison for two-year-old pacing colts, tripping the timer in 1:55.1. The son of Manhardt is conditioned and was driven by Mike Micallef for Brett Boyd Racing and Anthony Formosa. Rockin Airway was second for Kayne Kauffman, while Caviart Sargent was third for Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. Hardt At Work is now two for two in his brief career and sports a bankroll of $23,750.

Leave Her Wild exploded in the final yards to win the third OHSS contest for two-year-old pacing fillies in 1:55.1. Driven by Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. for owner-trainer Danielle Snyder, the daughter of Domethatagain picked up her second-straight victory in as many tries, upping her career earnings to $23,400. Pinknperfect was second for Chris Page, while She Knows It all nailed down show honors for Brett Miller.

Odds On Pick Six captured the final OHSS for two-year-old pacing colts in a commanding 1:54.2 for driver Peter Wrenn and trainer Melanie Wrenn. The daughter of Racing Hill picked up his first career win for Odds On Racing as the 2-5 favourite, besting Home Team and 52-1 Rose Run Warner. Odds On Pick Six now has $57,500 in earnings.

Sentimental captured the final OHSS for 2-year-old pacing fillies in 1:56.1 with Tyler Smith driving for trainer John Ackley and the CT Stables. This bay filly is by Ohio sire The Panderosa and now has two wins in as many career starts. Bred by Marvin Raber of Berlin, Ohio, Sentimental sports a bankroll of $23,750. Lady Sconset was second for Derek Watiker with Rocking The Blues third for Danny Noble.
