After a long drawn out battle with Barona Fivehundred, Kalahari Riff eventually gained the upper hand in the stretch to take the featured $1,250 Winners Over Pace on Friday at Yorkton Exhibition.

With trainer Kevin Siever in the sulky, Kalahari Riff shot off the gate from the inside post with Barona Fivehundred (Tyler Redwood) from the next position over. Those two battled on the front end through splits of :28.1, :57.4 and 1:28.1 before Kalahari Riff pulled away to win in 2:00.2.

Fan favourite Shadow Promises (Glenn LeDrew) was the runner up in the five-horse field finishing one length behind and Outlaw Watch Me (Brian Gray) was third while Baron Fivehundred faded to fourth.

Siever also owns the five-year-old homebred son of Bo Knows Jate out of Giro Lily. The win was Kalahari Riff’s third of the season in seven outings, and he has yet to finish out the money. The chestnut gelding’s 21st lifetime scored increased his bankroll to $26,651.

In other action, trainer Shawn Worthen scored a grand slam on the nine-race program giving him 14 wins on the year and 147 in his career.

Glenn Le Drew drove Get Out Of Town (2:03) and Manstorm (2:05) to a pair of victories for Worthen while Laurie Bell sent Four Starzz Smiley (2:02.4) to the winner's circle and Tyler Redwood did the same with Bubblemint (2:01.1).
