Trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt converted a pocket trip to a 1:54.4 victory with Armycaptin Hanover in the $8,100 Open Pace at Century Downs on Tuesday (June 8).

Pylon-starter Tiempo Hanover, sent the slightest favourite at 2-1 over Armycaptin Hanover, seized command to a :26.4 opening quarter and faced no pressure to a :56.2 half. Dontpokethedragon advanced first over from fifth moving into the backstretch and loomed closer to the pacesetter past three-quarters in 1:24.3. Off the final turn, Tiempo Hanover clung to a diminishing lead as a seam opened inside for Armycaptin Hanover, giving the five-year-old Captaintreacherous gelding space to dash through and to the lead at the beam. He finished a neck better than Tiempo Hanover while Dontpokethedragon settled for third.

Co-owned by Hoerdt with Blair Corbeil, Armycaptin Hanover won his second race from five starts this season and his 14th from 57 overall, earning $80,074. He paid $6.40 to win.
