The 2023 harness racing season kicked off on Saturday afternoon (June 3) at Hanover Raceway and Twentyeight Late posted a new lifetime mark in the $5,000 top condition class on the card.

Daryl Thiessen rocketed out of the gate with the Larry Jewitt trainee, securing the early lead and never looking back. Twentyeight Late sailed through fractions in :29.2, 1:00.4 and 1:30 before crossing the wire 1-1/4 lengths in front in 2:00. Bryant Seelster (Tyler Moore) was second and Y S Bettors Legacy (Brett MacDonald) finished third.

Unraced as a freshman and sophomore, the four-year-old Lyonssomewhere mare hasn't missed the board in 13 starts, with seven of those as second-place finishes. It was her second win in a career-best time for owner Dennis Jewitt. Twentyeight Late paid $13.20 to win.

Live harness racing will continue on Saturdays through Sept. 16, with the exception of Aug. 12 when the Hanover Fair will take place.
