The Track On 2 kicks off its 2023 harness racing season with eight races slated for Sunday (July 2) with a first post of 2:15 p.m.

A $5,800 feature in the fourth race tops the card with a field of seven going to the gate at the one-mile oval outside Lacombe, Alta. The morning line choice is split between two 3-1 choice horses, Blue Powder from post two and Tiempo Hanover from post seven.

Blue Powder, trained and driven by Jean-Francois Gagne, has six career wins and earnings of $53,194. The six-year-old gelding earned his career mark of 1:54.4 at Century Mile earlier this season. Tiempo Hanover will be looking to get his first win of the season with trainer Brandon Campbell in the bike. The nine-year-old son of Western Ideal has career earnings of $277,910 and 26 wins.

Third choice, with odds of 7-2, goes to Three More Smiles from post four. Trained and driven by Terry Kaufman, Three More Smiles has career earnings of $224,495 with 30 wins. The nine-year-old gelding has been racing at Fraser Downs and Century Downs so far this season, picking up two wins, two seconds and a third in 10 starts.

Leading trainer and driver from the 2022 season, David Kelly, sends out two horses in the feature. Kelly takes the lines of Tropical Dragon (post one) while Logan Gillis gets the call on Munchie Chris (post five).

Blue Powder's stablemate Tajmania (post three, Phil Giesbrecht) and Brinsley Brooking Lutz trainee Electric Amaeus (post six, Thomas Miller) round out the field of seven.

The Track On 2 will race July 2, 9, 16 and 30 with a first post at 2:15 p.m. and on July 24 with a 5:15 p.m. post time. In the first two weeks of August, the track will continue with a 2:15 p.m. post time on Sundays before moving to a Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday schedule where Sundays and Saturdays will start at 2:15 p.m. and Wednesdays will start at 5:15 p.m. The Track On 2 concludes its season with three more Sundays in September, closing out the meet on Sept. 17.
