Three-year-old trotting filly Cash Deals kicked off the 2023 harness racing season at Grand River Raceway on Friday night with a dominating win against Prospect Series competition.

Fresh off her City Of London Series score last weekend at Western Fair, Cash Deals ($2.20) lowered her lifetime mark to 1:59.1 with a six-length romp in the evening's first $8,500 division of the Prospect Series for sophomore trotting fillies. Mario Baillargeon trains and drives the developing Wheeling N Dealin filly, who has now won half of her 12 seasonal starts for Thestable Cash Deals Group after two unsuccessful outings last year.

The other trotting division went to the maiden-breaking Lastkickathecan ($11.30), another daughter of Wheeling N Dealin, trained by Dale Fritz for owner Matthew Trelford. Tyler Borth drove the 1:59.4 winner, who was making just her second career start.

The Prospect pacing fillies were headlined by last year's divisional champion Gimmie A Corona ($8.20), a 1:55.4 winner in her $8,900 race for the tandem of driver Anthony Haughan and trainer Meg Crone. The Control The Moment miss is owned by Laverne Turnbull.

Jack Darling Stables' season-debuting Artspeak filly Twin B Echo ($4.70) also clocked a 1:55.4 winning mile with J Harris catch-driving.

Trainer James 'Friday' Dean's homebred Two Across Marion ($4.70), a daughter of Big Jim, matched her lifetime mark of 1:56.4 in the other pacing division with Jason Ryan in the bike.

Grand River's 20th racing season continues on Monday evening, with post time set for 6:30 p.m.
