Daisy River Wire-To-Wire In Feature At Charlottetown

Daisy River took the Open Trot with a wire-to-wire victory at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday  (June 16).

Daisy River had a front-end score in the $2,800 Open Trot in race nine, controlling every station through splits of :28.4, 1:00.1, 1:30.4 and 1:59.1. William Lanigan of Montague owns and trains the homebred daughter of Nikes Image. Windmeredontuworry (Corey MacPherson) was second ahead of Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault). 

The seven-year-old mare secured her first win on the season in two starts and twenty-fifth win lifetime with $92,908 in career earnings. At the controls was Jason Hughes, nicknamed “The Blue Knight”, who was on top of his game with a quartet of victories on the night.

The Stratford driver had scored his first win with Miss Kabana in race five with a 1:59.1 victory for trainer Gary Poulton.  His next wins came from his own Charlottetown stable with Michele Z Tam winning race ten in 1:57.4 followed by a win in the race eleven featured Fillies and Mares Preferred with a pocket riding Acefortyfour Dome in 1:54.3.

The $3,200 Fillies and Mares Preferred 1 was the first East Coast win for Acefortyfour Dome with Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge holding the ownership papers after purchasing her from Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ontario. Dreamfair Zenfire (Marc Campbell) had to settle for second with Ladylike (David Dowling) third. 

Ms Moyse and Filly Forty Seven shared the winning title in the $2,850 Fillies and Mares Preferred after a 1:56.1 dead heat at the wire. Filly Forty Seven with trainer/driver Marc Campbell at the controls was the first to make a move after a :27.3 first quarter. Her challenger appeared after a :57.1 half when Ms Moyse and Adam Merner pulled off the rail. The two mares battled for the top at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2. Wheel-to-wheel, the pair crossed the wire in unison. 

Melissa Rennie trains the five-year-old Ms Moyse for owners Olivia May and Andrew Cameron. Filly Forty Seven is owned by Alan MacDonald, Cory Carver, and Katelyn Smallwood. She pushed her career stats to 44 wins and $282,295 in earnings.
