Esplosione Excels In Mohawk Main Event

A perfect, pocket trip was parlayed into a second race triumph by Esplosione in Monday’s main event for trotters at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

With Jody Jamieson picking up the catch-driving assignment, Esplosione hustled out to an early lead and he had the field chasing him past the quarter pole in :28.2. Race favourite Safe Conduct then marched up to secure the top spot, and after doing that he cruised through middle panels of :56.4 and 1:26.2.

Jamieson angled to the outside going to the three-quarter pole with Esplosione, and the gelding then used a :28.3 closing quarter to collar Safe Conduct and then draw clear to win by a pair of lengths over that popular foe in 1:55.1. Taking home third prize in the six-horse affair was Shestheluckyone.

Sent off as the 7-5 second choice in the wagering, the four-year-old son of Kadabra-Dynamite Dame improved his 2023 record to 2-4-2 from 12 starts with the win. The seven-time winner, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Kyle Fellows, is owned by Outofthepark Stable, Hay Tell Stable, Patrick Dillon and Steve McGill. The lion’s share of the $23,000 purse bumped his bankroll to $468,430.
