If ever there was a horse who loved London, it’s safe to say his name is Sea Laird.

The photogenic pacer has now found his way to victory lane in his last seven starts over the half-mile oval thanks to Monday’s triumph in the $13,000 Preferred Handicap for horse and gelding pacers.

Sea Laird, who was sent off as the 2-5 favourite, wound up being parked out every step of the mile before digging down deep and posting a 1:55.4 win for driver Tyler Borth and trainer Terry Gallant.

Bugsy Maguire marched to the lead and laid down fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.2, but he couldn’t go the distance.  It was Sea Laird, who despite spending the entire mile on the rim, who kicked home in :29.2 to win by three-quarters of a length over Ideal Perception in 1:55.4.  Cheddar Bay rallied to finish third.

The seven-year-old son of Custard The Dragon-Devil Likes It Hot improved his 2023 record to 5-0-1 from 12 starts with the victory.  The 27-time winner bumped his overall bankroll to $225,495 for owner Stacey Smith Robinson of South Mountain, Ont.
