Campbell, Johnson Sweep Thursday CDP Features

The Colin Johnson barn topped the field in both feature events on the first Thursday evening program of the 2023 Summer Meet at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

New Legacy pounced to a three-length victory in the $3,100 Open Trot unloading a :28.1 final quarter to win in 2:01.1 over Jessiejesorjessica (Gilles Barrieau) and Sailor Blue (Ken Murphy). Marc Campbell was in the race bike behind the winning trotter for owner Don MacNeill, Debbie Element and Matt and David Burke. 

Campbell and Johnson also took the top pace of the evening in Race 6 as Shes So Sweet delivered off the front in 1:56.1 in the $2,800 contest for owners Element and Matt and David Burke. 

Captaintreacherous three-year-old Now Showing delivered a crushing six-length win in race two in 1:56.2 with Corey MacPherson at the lines of the Leith Waite trainee as the colt broke his maiden with a :27.3 final quarter. 

The Melissa Rennie barn had a pair of winners on the evening with Woodmere Rollily in 1:58.2 in race eight and Ms Moyse in 1:59.1 in race 10, both in line to Adam Merner. 

Live harness racing continues Saturday evening at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
