The connections of four-year-old pacer Huntinthelastdolar have paid the 2023 New York Sire Stakes champ into some of the division's top stakes events, and the son of Huntsville is showing he might be a factor in those races with some solid early season efforts.

Trained by Gregg McNair through his two- and three-year-old seasons, Huntinthelastdolar is now part of the Per Engblom stable and owned by E Five Racing of Boca Raton and Ontario's John Fielding following a sale last November. The gelding made one start for Engblom last December at The Meadowlands, finishing a solid third to Soaring Now while pacing his own mile in a best beaten time of 1:48.3.

After a 1:54 tune-up a week ago, Huntinthelastdolar once again qualified at The Meadowlands during the 11-dash session on April 6. The pacer won gate-to-wire in 1:52.3, sprinting home in :26.2 to best a solid group of older foes that included seasonally debuting four-year-olds Voukefalas (fifth for driver Jordan Stratton) and El Rey (sixth for driver Dexter Dunn).

Huntinthelastdolar (Huntsville - Eighthunrdolarbill) sports eight career wins with more than $507,000 in earnings. He took his lifetime mark of 1:49.2 at Vernon Downs in New York Sire Stakes action last June.

Huntinthelastdolar, Voukefalas and El Rey are among the 21 four-year-olds eligible to the 2024 Prix d'Ete, while also eligible to the 2024 Canadian Pacing Derby. Both Huntinthelastdolar and El Rey could make Canadian appearances before those events as those two are also eligible to compete in the 2024 Charles Juravinski Memorial at Flamboro Downs in May.
