In High Cotton Zooms To Career Best At Fraser

In High Cotton won the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open at Fraser Downs on Thursday (April 20) by open lengths in a career-best time of 1:52.

David Hudon was at the controls of In High Cotton, who found herself on the rail in the field of five. Miss Itunes (Allan Molloy) was the first to the top and maintained that lead through the quarter in :25.2, half in :54.1 and three-quarters in 1:23. In High Cotton was on the outside in a speedy pursuit by the three-quarters and overtook the leader in the final turn. Hudon and In High Cotton zoomed down the stretch, opening up to win by seven lengths. Stablemate Century Mach (Scott Knight) was second and Miss Itunes finished third. In High Cotton paid $9.20 to win.

The 1:52 mile time is just one-fifth of a second off the 1:51.4 track standard for older pacing mares.

In High Cotton is a five-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere and the Western Hanover mare Olivette Hanover. Kelly Hoerdt trains and co-owns In High Cotton with Blair and Erna Corbeil. The mare has a career record of 13-15-14 in 68 starts with $156,467 in lifetime earnings. This season, she has posted 3-3-1 in 10 starts with an even $30,000 earned.
