Exotic Dragon Pockets Western Fair Preferred

The $11,600 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace headlined the Tuesday, March 19 evening card at The Raceway at the Western Fair District and Exotic Dragon followed the pocket trip behind the favourite before claiming the victory in a blanket finish.

Major League N (Ed Hensley) set up as the bettors' choice and pacesetter for the mile, dishing out panels in :27.3, :57.4 and 1:26.4. Exotic Dragon and Travis Cullen followed their every step within striking distance. In the stretch, the pair made their move to advance on the leader and win by a quarter of a length. Major League N had to settle for second and Laila Blue (Travis Henry) charged home, but was bested for second at the wire by a quarter of a length. The final time of the mile read 1:57.

Exotic Dragon won her fifth race in nine starts this year. A winner of $340,263, the mare owned by Paul Sanders, Travis Cullen and Ronald Cullen has made 33 career trips to the winner's circle. Jodie Cullen trains the six-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon-Accentuate. As the second choice at 2-1, Exotic Dragon returned $6.10 to win.
