Stash It Away rallied off the pace to win the $3,300 Preferred Pace on Sunday (Feb. 5) at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park.

Gilles Barrieau sat off the speed with Stash It Away before springing into action around the final turn, swooping from last to first to score in 1:57.2 over Middleton Terror and Blood Money. Kevin MacLean trains the winning son of Pang Shui for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. He paid $2.50 to win.

Plain Jane led pillar to post in the $2,800 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace. The five-year-old Shadow Play mare coasted under minimal threat and then turned away a far-turn challenge from Woodmere Rollily to win in 1:59 over pocket-sitter Elm Grove Mistress. David Dowling Drove the Marc Campbell trainee for owners Leigh and Faith Gavin. She paid $3.10 to win.

Barrieau tripled on the day winning with Buddysnvirgins (2:00.2 winning mile) for trainer Darrel Neill and Pacific Delight (2:00.2) from the Ron Matheson barn.

A snow-covered February track was no trouble for Phil Dorleans, who won in a lifetime best performance on the final dash of the winter meet.

The final dash of the season saw Jason Hughes rallying the son of Shanghai Phil from post seven to devour ground in the stretch drive for a neck decision at 15-1 in a 1:56.2 while snapping the six-race win streak of the heavily favoured Premier Joy A. Hughes trains the eight-year-old gelding for owners Kent and Andrew Williams and Lyndon Hardy. Hughes had a double as a trainer-driver as Woodmere Dealer was a 1:59.3 winner in race five.

Live racing is scheduled to return on May 6 at Red Shores Charlottetown.
