After struggling to make ends meet in back-to-back starts at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Sea Laird was given a change of scenery on Monday evening by trainer Terry Gallant – and it worked out perfectly.

The seven-year-old son of Custard The Dragon-Devil Likes It Hot survived a tough trip to take home top honours in the $13,000 Preferred Pace for horses and geldings.

Tyler Borth got away third from Post 4 with Sea Laird, who watched Lovemyrockinbird fire to the top and slice out splits of :28.1, :58.3 and 1:27.  Borth came first over on the way to the half with Sea Laird, and the gelding toughed it out to win by a length in 1:56.1 over YS Delight.  Race favourite Ideal Perception took home the show dough in the six-horse tilt.

Sent off at 9-2, Sea Laird improved is now two-for-five in 2023 for Stacey Smith Robinson of South Mountain, Ont.  The 25-time winner recently surpassed $200,000 in career earnings.
