Meadowlands Racetrack held its second annual Charity Handicapping Contest last Saturday night, with seven local charitable organizations selected to compete for their share of $13,500.

Horse Rescue United led the entire way hitting on eight of their 10 selections and finished with a bankroll of $52.20. Coming in second with $49.80 was Wayne P.A.L. with the 2019 winner, Act Now Foundation, finishing third with $43.20

“This was so much fun,” said Sean McGinley, the representative and horse adopter from Horse Rescue United. “We always enjoy participating and can’t believe that we won this year! These funds will take care of our horses’ costs for two full months!”

The full Charity Handicapping Contest standings are below.

Charity Bankroll Donation
Horse Rescue United, Inc. $52.20 $5,000
Wayne PAL $49.80 $3,000
Act Now Foundation $43.20 $2,000
Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Hunterdon $41.80 $1,500
Homeless Animal Adoption League $34.40 $1,000
North Jersey Friendship House $31.20 $500
Standardbred Pleasure Horse Org of NJ $28.20 $500

For the Charity Handicapping Contest, organizations had to select one horse in nine designated Meadowlands live races. The organization amassed a mythical bankroll if their selection finished first, second or third in the designated race. Official $2 WPS (Win, Place, Show) payoffs were added to the mythical bankroll. The organization with the highest bankroll was declared the winner.

Each organization came out with a crew of volunteers and supporters that thoroughly enjoyed their night at the races, which included winner’s circle presentations.

“Knowing how much these funds mean to these organizations makes this event even more special,” said Jason Settlemoir, COO and GM of Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. “We want to have a positive impact on our community, which is why this has become one of our favourite onsite promotions.”
