Speedy stakes winner The Veteran has been retired from on-track activity and will shift to stallion duties for the upcoming breeding season.

Leatherstocking Equine has announced that The Veteran will stand his first season at stud in 2022. According to the farm, "he is sensibly priced at $2,500 for his first season. A quality stallion prospect at an affordable rate."

A son of top trotting sire Muscle Mass, The Veteran was a multiple stakes winner during his two- and three-year-old seasons and dominated in the New York Sire Stakes program. As a sophomore he established a track record of 1:54.3 at Saratoga winning a NYSS event by nine lengths.

While racing in open competition as a five- and six-year-old, he demolished the track standard at The Red Mile when he took his lifetime mark of 1:50.1, shaving more than a second from the previous mark set by Revenue S.

Paul Kelley states that "The Veteran is a big horse with a great gait. He excelled on any size track. New York is the perfect place for him."

Developer George Ducharme noted that "The Veteran was a great-gaited colt who could get around all size tracks. An honest trotter that gave his best every start”.

The Veteran’s dam is stakes winner Tequila Slammer 2, 1:56.4 ($271,416) and he hails from the immediate family of millionaire Earl Of My Dreams. The Veteran retires with just over a half million in earnings and will have a debut stud fee of $2,500.
