Volcanic Blue Chip Tops Harrisburg Second Session

The second of five sessions of the 2022 Harrisburg Sale took place today (Tuesday, Nov. 8) at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Volcanic Blue Chip, a Walner-Thisladysdynamite filly, held the highest bid with a $325,000 price tag.

Volcanic Blue Chip was sold as Hip 294 to Ake Svanstedt of Wrightstown, New Jersey. Blue Chip Farms LLC consigned the filly bred by Blue Chip Bloodstock, Inc. and Riverview Breeding LLC. Volcanic Blue Chip's dam is a half-sister to the dam of world champion Plunge Blue Chip (1:49.4 - $1,596,841) and Splash Blue Chip (1:51.4 - $474,623).

Hip 391 Twin B Predator was purchased for $310,000 by Noel Daley of Chesterfield, New Jersey from the Twinbrook Farms consignment. The Captaintreacherous colt is the first foal out of Paisley Hanover, a half-sister to the dam of world record setter Papi Rob Hanover (1:47.1 - $1,019,244). 

Hip 366 Seven Again, daughter of Chapter Seven-Armbro Deja Vu, was a $260,000 purchase by Trond Smedshammer of Allentown, New Jersey. Preferred Equine Mkt., Inc. consigned the half-sister to former Smedshammer trainee Dejarmbro (1:52.2 - $1,135,123).

Hip 277 Elista Hanover was taken by Lynn Curry of West Chester, Pennsylvania from the Hanover Shoe Farms, Inc. consignment for $240,000. The International Moni filly is a half-sister to May Karp (1:52.2 - $281,408).

Hip 512 Abra Abra Kadabra sold for $235,000 to Determination out of Montreal, Que. Icy Stable/Farhi Standardbreds consigned the Kadabra filly out of Windsong Nolwenn, a sister to O'Brien Award winner Windsong Espoir (1:55.3 - $765,386).

In total, 341 yearlings went through the ring for a total of $16,014,000 with an average price of $46,962. Over $35.7 million was grossed for 506 horses through the first two days of this year's session, averaging $70,613 and just $7 million short of the record for overall gross set in 2007 with $42.7 million selling 1,048 horses.

Through two sessions in 2021, the sale sold 421 horses with gross sales of $33.4 million, with a two-session record average of $79,399.
