Another round of Pop-Up Series began at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday night (Nov. 3) with two divisions on the trot and one for pacing fillies and mares.

Sunburnt scored in the lone $15,000 dash for pacing fillies and mares with a pocket-popping victory in 1:54.2.

Chedda Chedda charged to the lead and faced little opposition while carving fractions of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:26.1 with Sunburnt in the box. Driver Jody Jamieson lunged Sunburnt from the pocket spinning for home and struck the lead with Academy Seelster and Mending Fences gaining ground late. Sunburnt held firm to the finish to win by three-quarter lengths over Academy Seelster with Mending Fences third and Chedda Chedda faltering to fourth.

Paul Cameron owns and trains Sunburnt, who broke her maiden in her 14th start while adding to her bankroll now worth $33,608. The two-year-old Sunshine Beach filly paid $3.50 to win.

Brash Lady posted the faster mile of the two trotting Pop-Up Series events with a 1:56.2 victory in the opener on the 10-race card.

R Hot Toddy took the lead from Sayonara Angel by a :27.4 first quarter and coasted uncontested through a :58.1 half and three-quarters in 1:27.3. Holding a three-length lead off the turn, R Hot Toddy's lead began to shrink as Brash Lady emerged through traffic and soared to the lead in the eighth pole before drawing away and winning by three lengths. CM Savewill GL settled for second and Make It Easy closed for third.

Shane Weber trains Brash Lady for owner-breeders Thomas and Elizabeth Rankin. She broke her maiden with the win, pushed her bankroll to $14,990 and paid $4.20 to win.

The other Pop-Up Trot went to Zip Me Up in a 1:58.1 mile. The two-year-old Wheeling N Dealin gelding, sent off as the 3-5 favourite, got away third from post eight and sat while Belvedere Franklin strolled on a clip of :29.2, :59 and 1:28.2. Driver James MacDonald pulled Zip Me Up around the final turn and surged to the lead in the lane to win by 1-3/4 lengths over pocket-sitter Wania. Tymal Twyla took third and Belvedere Franklin faded to fourth.

Mark Goddard conditions Zip Me Up for owners Howard and Josh Kaufman. The gelding broke his maiden in his 11th start and pushed his bankroll to $29,002. He paid $2.90 to win.
