Sylvain Filion put the pedal to the metal early with Top Expectations in Monday’s $25,000 top trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and after the mare cleared to the top she didn’t look back en route to a 1:53.3 score.

Top Expectations left hard from Post 4 and had the field chasing her through fractions of :27.3, :56.2 and 1:25.1. A :28.2 closing quarter was enough for her to seal the deal by a length over On A Sunny Day. Third prize was earned by the late-rushing B Yoyo.

Sent off as the 2-5 favourite in the six-horse affair, the four-year-old daughter of Cantab Hall-Exceed Expectations improved this year’s record to 9-2-1 from 20 trips to the track for trainer Ben Baillargeon and owned Daniel Plouffe of Bromont, QC. The $12,500 payday lifted her lifetime earnings over $500,000.

E R Rhonda kicked off the card with a popular score over claiming foes, but what made it special was the fact that the victory was the 50th of her career.

The eight-year-old daughter of Moonbeam-Cinnamon Punch overcame early interference and then kicked off cover in the lane to win for the second straight start.

Scott Young mapped out the winning trip for the mare, and for trainer Mitch Tierney who celebrated his first-ever win at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Jemaxpo Racing Stable LLC of Wellington, FL owned the mare who was claimed.

Richard Moreau celebrated a training triple on the program thanks to wins with Hemi Seelster (1:53), Julerica (1:51.2) and Darkest Secret (1:53.3).

The multiple O'Brien Award-winning conditioner now has 260 wins this season with purse earnings in excess of $4.2 million. To date, the Quebec native has racked up 5,884 wins and purse earnings of just over $58 million.
