Four Supplement To Breeders Crown

Breeders Crown supplemental entries closed today (Monday, Oct. 18) with four supplements to the $6.6 million championships to be hosted by the Meadowlands Racetrack on October 29-30.

Kentucky Futurity champion Jujubee has been supplemented to the $600,000 Three-Year-Old Colt Trot and Kentucky Filly Futurity winner Katies Lucky Day to the $600,000 Three-Year-Old Filly Trot.

Greg Wright Jr. trains the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes star Jujubee, who has boosted his career bankroll over $630,000 with 13 wins from 16 starts this year. The homebred son of Creatine is owned by Jon Erdner of Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

“I was pretty confident in supplementing [to the Crown] after he won the Futurity," said Wright. "The biggest challenge there was the post draw but once he won the way he did, I had even more confidence in going ahead then.

“There was a start back in a Sire Stake in May, when he actually got beat -- In Range caught him at the wire -- but he came a back half in :53.4 or so and ever since that day that speed has been there whenever you needed it.”

Black Magic Racing's Ohio-bred Uncle Peter filly Katies Lucky Day has earned the bulk of her half-million dollar bankroll winning half of her 18 sophomore starts for trainer Todd Luther.

“Obviously winning the Filly Futurity down there she showed she can go with some of the better ones,” said Greg Luther of Black Magic Racing. “And I’ve never had a horse in the Breeders Crown. I’m excited to give it a shot for the big money. I’ve already booked flights for 23 or 24 people; we’re bringing everybody.”

The supplement fee for the three-year-old divisions was $62,500.

Allerage Farm Open Trot winner and recent Scandinavian import Ecurie D DK has been supplemented for $62,500 to the $600,000 Open Trot. A 16-time career winner, the five-year-old son of Infinitif made his North American debut a winning one with that 1:50.4 Grand Circuit triumph on October 10 at The Red Mile for trainer Ake Svanstedt. He is owned by Marko Kreivi Stables Inc., Suleyman Yuksel Stables I, and Ake Svanstedt Inc.

Yonkers Raceway distaff star Racine Bell has been supplemented for $31,250 to the $300,000 Mares Open Pace. The four-year-old So Surreal mare has won half of her 22 starts this year while banking $241,910 for trainer David Dewhurst and New York-based owners Chris Lawton and Dale Lawton. She took her lifetime mark of 1:48.1 at The Meadowlands in a June leg of the Kissin In The Sand, besting Rocknificent and current division leader Lyons Sentinel.

“She wasn’t quite up to par there and then we found out a thing or two about her, and she’s been really good since,” said Dewhurst. “Last week, she was really good and Jason [Bartlett, her regular driver] said we should put here in there, so we said OK. I’ve had no other place to race her other than Yonkers, I keep entering her and no one will take her.”

All entries for eligible horses are due on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. at The Meadowlands.
