Stash It Away finished off a Gilles Barrieau driving triple in the main event on Saturday (Jan. 21) at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Kevin MacLean trainee was unhurried at the start in the $3,300 Preferred Pace as Burn Out Hanover (Brady Sweet) snapped to the lead and cruised through comfortable splits of :30.1, 1:00.2 and 1:29.4. Blood Money (Marc Campbell) came calling at that third station and battled with Burn Out Hanover for the stretch drive before Barrieau showed Stash It Away open air and the Pang Shui gelding gobbled up racetrack to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:58.2. Blood Money was second with Burn Out Hanover third.

Reg MacPherson of Stratford, P.E.I. holds the ownership papers on four-year-old Stash It Away, now a 15-time career winner with more than $117,000 in earnings.

Barrieau’s other two wins came from the Jeff Lilley-trained duo of Ubettimagoodone (2:02.1) and Bettim Vicky (2:04.2).

Campbell had four driving wins on the day to extend his lead in the driver’s standings to 10 after two programs. Campbell won with Filly Forty Seven (1:59.3) and Plain Jane (1:58.4) from his own barn and with the Colin Johnson trainees Truckem (2:05.3) and Premier Joy A (1:58.1).

Live harness racing continues Saturday, Jan. 28, with a 12:30 p.m. opening post time with the season scheduled to end on the newly-announced Feb. 4 race date.
