The year-end $1 million stakes for older stars of the sport that has been known as the TVG Championships since its 2013 inception will be known as the FanDuel Championships beginning with the 2023 edition.

The Meadowlands and TVG have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with racing from The Meadowlands being the feature track on the popular "Drive Time" portion of the TVG broadcasts for many years, the lone consistent televised presence for harness racing on the network.

With the evolution of sports betting, TVG has been re-branded to reflect the change over to FanDuel. One change will be increased wagering opportunities on horse racing as part of the FanDuel network's content.

The history of the now FanDuel Championship Series has been rich from the start. When Meadowlands President Jeff Gural conceived the idea, his intention was to provide a year-end stakes that would permit the top three-year-old an opportunity to end the season by racing the best of the older divisions, as the Breeders Cup Classic has done.

That came to fruition quickly when the connections of champion sophomore Captaintreacherous accepted the invitation to race older horses in the inaugural $500,000 Open Pace, which was won by the sport's all-time leading money winner, Foiled Again, in a thriller. In 2015, the mare divisions for each gait were launched.

The series has provided a number of memorable performances, including wins by three-year-old trotters What The Hill and Tactical Landing against their elder rivals.

The history of the FanDuel Championship Series and all other Meadowlands stakes is available for review within the Stakes Media Guide.
