Century Isaiah Upsets In Mohawk Feature

The four-year-old Muscle Mass gelding Century Isaiah forged to the lead early and wired his peers to post a 1:55.2 win in the fastest of three divisions of the $18,000 feature trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday night (March 16).

Driver James MacDonald moved Century Isaiah to the point while odds-on favourite Busy Making Moni settled into fourth. Century Isaiah led through a soft opener of :28.3 and :58.3 but then quickened around the final turn when blitzed by Belvedere Bronx.

Belvedere Bronx took a brief lead by three-quarters in 1:26.2 but levelled off in the stretch, leaving the lead back with Century Isaiah. Bar Brawl mounted a bid from the pocket in the lane while Busy Making Moni tried reeling in the top two. Century Isaiah clung to the lead to the finish, winning by a half length over Bar Brawl with Busy Making Moni another length behind in third.

Ron Waples Jr. trains and co-owns Century Isaiah with Dr. Sheila Atmore. The gelding has now won two races from 38 starts and earned $54,322. He paid $28 to win.
