When a Malabar Man stud by the name of Calamar landed in Debi O’Brien-Moran’s barn some 15 years ago, it was so she could get him sold on behalf of someone else.
The sale wasn’t meant to be, however, but the love story between Debi and the one she calls ‘The People’s Horse’ sure was. There wasn’t much that Debi and her horse didn’t do together, and the number of lives they touched along the way are countless. Calamar sadly passed away this past September, but he left Debi and many others much better off for having known him. By Chris Lomon.
