Hiawatha Switches Post Time

Published: June 22, 2020 04:14 pm EDT

Trot Insider has been informed that officials at Sarnia's Hiawatha Horse Park have made the decision to make a significant change to post time at the track.

After having listened to feedback from horsepeople, Hiawatha officials have decided to change the track's Saturday post time to 12:30 p.m., as opposed to the track's previous 6:30 p.m. Saturday start time.

Hiawatha officials conveyed to Trot Insider that the change was made because horsepeople have communicated that they would rather race in the afternoon than evenings.

Hiawatha is scheduled to race on Saturdays until September 19.

I always felt, and this was prior to OLG pulling slot $$, that there should be an early afternoon, late afternoon, evening, rather then later post times, especially during spring, summer, fall when many tracks are racing.

With a reduction in operating tracks that is impossible, but still advantageous to have tracks staggered as best possible for the small bettor to have options.

WEG will always have the lions share, and, understandably so.

It comes down to maxing the market and opportunities.

Good Move Hiawatha!

It is not lost on me as a small bettor, that the pools have been far, far higher at Hanover and Clinton who race matinees, and tiny at KD and here. Over $30,000 per race card / per track so far since re-opens.

I wish all the smaller tracks did this. I know a few years back Western Fair and Flamboro use to race in the afternoon. I loved it. Don't know the reason for changing. Seems it would be bigger handles having to not go up against Mohawk.
