Summer Mixed Sale In Limbo

Tattersalls Sales Co. announced today that the date for its annual Summer Mixed Sale at the Meadowlands will be announced "as soon as we get clearance from the state of New Jersey," according to sales manager David Reid.

"We're working with the Meadowlands and we're both in 'wait and see' mode right now," Reid said. "As soon as Gov. Murphy announces the next phase of reopening, we plan to move ahead with the sale as quickly as possible."

Reid said everyone understands the challenges posed by the pandemic, and added that both he and the racetrack are working diligently to ensure a safe yet practical marketplace for consignors, buyers and sale horses, with all the necessary precautions in place.

"The industry hasn't had a significant auction since last winter, and owners and trainers have told me they're looking forward to having an in-person sale, whether they're buying or selling," Reid said.

"By the time the Summer Mixed gets underway, I expect all the tracks will be open and racing... which means there will be the usual high demand for racehorses. We look forward to having this marketplace to create some much-needed trade."
