Trot Insider has received more information in regard to the upcoming live meet at Kawartha Downs.

Officials with Kawartha announced this past weekend that the Peterborough-area track will be hosting an 18-date live season in 2018.

The information which appears below is in addition to the information that was received on Tuesday (May 15)

The track’s opening day will be Saturday, May 26. First-race post time will be 7:00 p.m.

The draw for the Saturday races will occur on Tuesdays. The entry box will close at 11:00 a.m.

There will be qualifying sessions on Saturdays starting at 4:30 p.m. (except May 19 at 11:00 a.m.). Qualifiers will be drawn on Thursdays (the entry box will close at 11:00 a.m.).

Schoolers, which have been slated for Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m., will run until June 13.

The track will be open for training on Mondays (from 8:00 a.m. to noon), Wednesdays (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and Thursdays (8:00 a.m. – noon).

Kawartha Downs is happy to announce that Sheri Minler-Grabatin will be the track’s racing secretary for 2018.

To make entries, please call 905-854-6442 or 1-866-774-6442.

It is important that horsepeople are aware that a Standardbred Canada field representative will be on hand to conduct business during the qualifying sessions.

Standardbred Canada would like to remind all horsepeople that all memberships and eligibility fees need to be paid. Additionally, name changes need to be made before a horse ever qualifies. Coggins tests are required as set out in the rules in your racing jurisdiction.

Additionally, if a horse’s $73 eligibility fee is not paid prior to it making its first start (in a race or qualifier), the horse will be suspended after its first outing in 2018, and the owner of the horse will then be invoiced (horses do not get a ‘free start’). Membership renewals and eligibility fees are two of many services that can be purchased online. To pay online, register with the SC website and sign into eShop by clicking the eShop button at the top of the homepage.
