Trot Insider has learned that Standardbred horseman Bradley ‘Brad’ Cassells passed away at his home this past Friday (April 20) in his 42nd year.

Cassells was a friend to everyone he ever came across at the track or in his life. He will most likely be best remembered for his willingness to warm up for anyone in any type of conditions on race day, as well as his white gloves and always impeccable shiny appearance when suited up for his race night assignments.

Cassells worked in Ontario primarily for Ricky Moffat during his first foray into harness racing, and later cut his teeth working for the Carl Jamieson Stable and the Bill Budd Stable. He then travelled to western Canada to work in Jamie Gray’s outfit and also ended up being the head raceday man for Hall of Famer Keith Clark.

Cassells will be sorely missed around the track.

Brad is the beloved husband and soulmate of Beckie L. (nee Davie) Cassells. Dear stepfather of Adrian Davie and Celina Davie. Loved grandfather of Charlotte Davie and Noah Davie. Cherished son of Wayne and Pat (nee Tilley) Cassells. Dear brother of Scott (Michelle) Cassells, Steve (Tracy) Cassells and uncle to Caleb, Carter, Tegan, Brooklyn and Brayden. Loving son-in-law to Izaak and Carol Roos, Brother-in-law to Evan (Leeum) Smith, Jim (Ivana) Martin and will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends.

Brad will always be remembered for his fun attitude and zest for life. He was loved by all that knew him.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Tuesday, April 24 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Evan Smith officiating. Cremation to follow.

If desired, memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated. Online condolences can be expressed below or at www.brockandvisser.com.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Brad Cassells.
