In light of recently announced changes to procedures and rules, announced by the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), and effective March 2, 2020, Standardbred Canada, the official Record Keeping Body and Registry of Standardbred racing and breeding in Canada, wishes to remind all participants in Ontario of the following very important information:

SC Membership – Prior to applying or submitting an application with AGCO, racing participants who are required by the Rules of Racing to hold both a Standardbred Canada and AGCO license must ensure their membership and licenses are valid with Standardbred Canada.

Authorized agents – SC members are responsible for providing completed Authorized Agent forms to SC. These are required for services such as purse money distribution, ownership transfers, claiming authorizations, authorized agents for minors, etc.

Claiming – When a horse is claimed, if the person is not already licensed as an active member/owner, they will have to still apply for a membership through Standardbred Canada. The ownership of the horse cannot be transferred if the claimant is not a Standardbred Canada member.

Grooms – In order to obtain insurance coverage, grooms should be licensed through Standardbred Canada. Grooms who apply that are over the age of 16 and under the age of 70 will also be insured if they are involved in a horse related accident.

For information on insurance programs, click here.

Administration of EIPH (Lasix) program – SC will no longer be accepting forms for putting a Horse ON or OFF the Lasix Program in Ontario. These forms will need to be directed to iAGCO via an iAGCO Regulatory Submission on their portal. This information will be electronically transferred from AGCO to SC when the information is provided to AGCO. You must still indicate, when entering horses into a draw, if the horse is to be racing on Lasix. This fact is then shown on the in-to-go and past performance line of the horse.

Parental consent – Any Standardbred Canada member who is a minor must also have someone to declare themselves as an “authorized agent for a minor.” A “minor” with Standardbred Canada is under the age of 16

Denerved horses & deceased horses – As the horse & breed registry of the Standardbred, horse owners must submit denerved horses through Standardbred Canada. Deceased horses should be submitted through both iAGCO and to Standardbred Canada.

Address and name changes – Please note that address and name changes must be made both through iAGCO and with Standardbred Canada.

If you have any questions about the changes in Ontario as they affect your Standardbred Canada membership, please contact us.
