The brightest stars of the Ontario Sires Stakes program will make the trek to Woodbine Mohawk Park this Saturday evening as the Campbellville, Ontario oval plays host to this year’s Super Finals.
Eight championship events will be contested to wrap up what has been another incredible season of Ontario Sires Stakes action.
Here’s a preview of what fans can look forward to on Saturday evening:
Two-Year-Old Filly Trot
Imextraspecial has captured back-to-back OSS Gold divisions for trainer Paul Walker and driver Trevor Henry, and they’ll look to cap off what has been a brilliant season for the daughter of Muscle Mass-I Am Special.
She’s assembled a 5-2-0 record from just nine starts, and that’s translated to more than $220,000 in seasonal earnings – the most of any starter in the $250,000 affair.
Three-Year-Old Filly Pace
There’s no standout in this category, but Lauras Love has certainly stamped herself as one of the bearcats in the group. Unraced as a rookie, the John Pentland trainee has manufactured a flashy record of 8-4-1 from 16 starts in addition to a bankroll that stands just shy of $250,000.
She’ll spar with a number of high profile adversaries in Alicorn and Sex Appeal.
Three-Year-Old Filly Trot
Royalty Deal and Trina came away with recent OSS Gold division scores, and they’ll be looking to keep the ball rolling in what appears to be another wide-open final.
Royalty Deal was a front-stepping winner in 1:53.3 against Gold Series foes on Oct. 6 for the tandem of driver Louis Philippe Roy and trainer Clark Beelby. The daughter of Royalty For Life-Cha Cha Glide has banked just shy of $130,000 this year.
Trina rallied to a 1:55.1 triumph in her Oct. 6 Gold Series assignment for the duo of driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Blake MacIntosh. The daughter of Muscle Mass-Dont Say Dont has a pair of Gold Series triumphs under her belt this season, and they’ve helped her rack up more than $140,000 in seasonal earnings.
Two-Year-Old Colt Pace
One of the most compelling battles figures to come in this category thanks to a well-balanced group of fierce, freshman pacers.
Lawless Shadow has racked up four wins from eight starts for trainer Dr. Ian Moore and driver Bob McClure. Fresh off a third-place finish in the Metro Pace, the son of Shadow Play-Ladycino will be looking to add to a bankroll that sits at just shy of $250,000.
Bulldog Hanover, a two-time Gold Series winner, will look to bounce back for driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Jack Darling after making a break in his latest outing. The three-time winner has stashed away more than $120,000 in his first five starts.
Bettor Sun wired up Gold foes in a recent trip to Flamboro Downs for driver Doug McNair and trainer Gregg McNair. The son of Sunshine Beach has hit the board in seven of his nine assignments, and that’s helped him stash away more than $270,000 this year.
Desperate Man has hit the board in all five of his starts, and that includes three consecutive victories to kick off his career. Driver Trevor Henry and trainer Kathy Cecchin will be looking for the son of Shadow Play to add to a bankroll that is sitting at just shy of $200,000.
Two-Year-Old Colt Trot
Macho Martini has dominated this division for driver Bob McClure and trainer Luc Blais, and they’ll be looking to keep the pedal to the metal this weekend. The son of Muscle Mass has racked up eight wins from 10 assignments, and that success has helped him rack up more than $390,000 in rookie earnings.
Two-Year-Old Filly Pace
Scarlett Hanover has five wins on her resume already this season, and Team Hensley will be shooting for six. With Ed Hensley in the bike behind the Ashleigh Hensley trainee, the daughter of Bettors Delight will be looking to add to a bankroll that stands in excess of $250,000.
Three-Year-Old Colt Trot
Pemberton, who was unraced as a rookie, has emerged as one of the brightest stars in the provincial program this season for the team of driver Trevor Henry and trainer Paul Walker.
The homebred son of Wheeling N Dealin-Dayshifter enters Saturday’s assignment with a seven for nine record and purse earnings of close to $240,000. He’s riding a three-race winning streak going into his Super Final.
Three-Year-Old Colt Pace
Tattoo Artist totes a three-race winning streak into his Super Final, and in order to celebrate the Grand Slam he’ll have to overcome Post 9 for driver Bob McClure and trainer Dr. Ian Moore.
The son of Hes Watching has won eight of 11 starts this season for earnings of just over $600,000. The runner-up in this year’s Pepsi North America Cup would inch closer to millionaire status with a victory.
