Katie Said Repeats In Mares Open

A field of seven filly and mare pacers lined up behind the starting gate for the featured event at Harrah's Philadelphia on Friday afternoon. The race was an Open Handicap affair going for a purse of $30,000.

The wagering public sent Jimmy Takter trainee Katie Said off as the post time favourite. The four-year-old daughter of Well Said was coming off of a solid victory against similar competition at Harrah's Philadelphia last week for owner Black Horse Racing.

Katie Said (Daniel Dube) wasted no time making her presence felt from the start, as she battled with Ooh Bad Shark (Allan Davis) for the lead at the quarter (:27.1). She took the lead just beyond that point, continuing her quick tempo to the half (:54.2). Just past that station, Ron Burke charge Set Me Up (Matt Kakaley) launched a first over initiative, but began to backpedal at three-quarters (1:23). As they entered the stretch, Ooh Bad Shark vacated the pocket and drove up to challenge Katie Said. Her bid came up just short, as Katie Said was able to last by a nose, stopping the clock in 1:51. BJs Sweetheart finished third.

The win was the 14th lifetime for Katie Said and her fourth of the season. She paid $4.80.
