Flamboro Downs is proud to host the Ellamony Stakes, a premier $100,000 event showcasing the best aged pacing mares.

“In 2009, we decided to add the Ellamony Stakes to the lineup,” said John Stolte, General Manager. “It’s an opportunity for all of us at Flamboro to pay tribute to not only the greatest Canadian filly of all time, but also the patriarch of the Flamboro Downs family -- Ellamony’s owner and breeder, Charles Juravinski.”

A multiple stakes champion with titles in the Breeders Crown, Roses Are Red and Mistletoe Shalee, just to name a few, Ellamony ended her career with 53 wins and nearly $1.5-million in earnings. She was a two-time Dan Patch Award winner south of the border, a three-time O’Brien Award champion at home and the 1995 Canadian Horse of the Year. Ellamony remains part of Flamboro’s rich history and her plot resides fittingly at the top of the inner winners circle.

The Ellamony is set as the feature race on the Saturday, Oct 1 card of racing with first post at 6:00 p.m.

To showcase the Ellamony, Flamboro Downs is featuring a host of on-track promotions including; $1.00 hot dogs, soft drinks, Pogos, mystery betting vouchers, T- shirt toss, a special edition of its popular Survivor handicapping challenge and a draw for VIP tickets to a Hamilton Tiger Cats upcoming home game.

The Top O Turn buffet is open for reservations and the new full service Pavilion dining room is available and may be booked directly on the website.

A reminder that racing dates change in October at the Dundas oval from Tuesdays to Wednesdays and continue four days a week until December. In January, the track races three days per week through to May, with post time always at 6:00 p.m.
