Czar Seelster Sharp In Invitational

Odds-on favourite Czar Seelster brushed to the lead around the final turn to win the $3,500 Invitational Pace at Charlottetown Driving Park by two lengths in 1:54.2 on Saturday (Sept. 22).

The Gregory Weatherbee trainee took the lead early as Rose Run Quest and Euchred also showed speed to his outside. Czar Seelster parked the two to be three wide by the quarter in :27.4 before yielding the lead to Rose Run Quest.

Pacing two lengths off new leader Rose Run Quest through a :55.4 half, driver Kenny Arsenualt turned into the backstretch and sent Czar Seelster after the leader heading to three-quarters. Past that station in 1:25.3, Czar Seelster took the lead and kicked clear of Rose Run Quest holding second while Machinthesand, off a rail trip, finished third four lengths back.

A nine-year-old stallion by Stonebridge Regal, Czar Seelster, owned by Tammy Johnston, won his sixth race in 21 starts this season and his 30th in 161 overall, earning $204,772. He paid $3.70 to win.

Brodys Leona sat a pocket trip to win the $2,350 FIllies and Mares Open Pace in 1:56.4. The nine-year-old mare by Modern Art stalked fractions of :28.1, :57.3 and 1:27.3 set by Collective Wisdom before turning into the stretch, popping pocket and surging to a four-length lead through the lane. Collective Wisdom held second with Prettyndangerous third.

Owned by Kerry Taylor, Emily Taylor and Lisa Richards, Brodys Leona, winning her third race in 20 starts and her 27th in 199 overall, has earned $91,314. She paid $9.00 to win.
