Trotting mare Out Of The Hat ($15.30) beat the boys in her return to Rideau Carleton Raceway's $6,800 Winners Over Handicap class on Sunday night (August 28).

The seven-year-old Kadabra mare secured a pocket trip behind Rocky Boy (:28.2, :59.3, 1:28) before overtaking him in the stretch through the passing lane and holding off outside challenger Raising Richard by a neck to score the 1:57.4 victory. Rocky Boy finished two and three-quarter lengths behind in third.

Out Of The Hat returned to Rideau in July after having competed at Pompano Park and then Hippodrome 3R earlier this year. Sunday's win was her third of the season and first at Rideau since making regular appearances in the Ottawa winner's circle the past two years for trainer/driver Stephane Pouliot. She is owned by 9096 9205 Quebec Inc. of St Henri de Levis, Que.

Viper Select ($5.60) went wire-to-wire in the $6,650 pacing co-feature and just held off a from-last Mr Massimo and the pocket-pulling Bestofbest Hanover by a head. Guy Gagnon was in the sulky for one of his four Sunday wins and he had the 11-year-old Dauntless Bunny gelding on the lead through panels of :27.4, :56.3 and 1:24.1 en route to the 1:53.2 triumph. The 40-time career winner is owned and trained by Denis Guindon of Carleton Place, Ont.
