Update On Louis-Philippe Roy

Trot Insider has received an update on driver Louis-Philippe Roy, who was involved in a single-horse accident on Wednesday (July 18) at Grand River Raceway.

Roy was driving Chocolatemilktoast in the evening's fifth race when the filly made a misstep, broke stride and fell. The fall launched Roy forward over the horse and onto the track. A conscious Roy was taken to local hospital.

On Thursday (July 19), Roy informed Trot Insider that he suffered no serious injuries in the accident but remains sore and would be booking off his scheduled drives on Thursday at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

His status for the Friday (July 20) card at Mohawk remains undetermined.

Roy, 28, leads all drivers in both wins (237) and purses ($3.278 million) collected on Canadian soil this season.

TROT's Darryl Kaplan noted that Chocolatemilktoast also escaped major injury in the fall.

"Our filly is doing quite well," said Kaplan, the co-owner and breeder of the rookie pacer. "She was kept down on the track a little longer just to make sure that Louis was safe, but she bounced up and made it to the paddock, and back home, with no issues.

"She has a few scrapes, but aside from that, Duane [Marfisi, the filly's trainer] tells me that she's doing very well this morning, no worse for wear. She ate up last night, and is in excellent spirits," said Kaplan. "A sincere thank you to all of the wonderful horsepeople who came to her assistance. We are heartened to hear that our talented driver, Louis-Philippe Roy, is on the mend."
